Moving In The Spirit

The word "communion" is derived from the word "commute," which means "to travel". The communion of the Holy Spirit is referring to the moving in the Spirit. But before you can move powerfully in the Holy Spirit, you must be comfortable and familiar with the environment or realm of the Holy Spirit.

Spiritual atmosphere is very real. We are under its influence all the time. There are times when you come into a place or room and you just want to leave as fast as possible. There are also times when you are in a place where you can sense the presence and power of the Holy Spirit and you just want to stay there and enjoy the glory of God.

When the Holy Spirit fills a room, powerful and exciting things happen. King Saul was completely transformed when he had encountered a prophetic atmosphere (1 Sam. 10:6). When the glory of God descended upon Solomon's temple, one hundred and twenty priests collapsed instantly.

We need to be skillful in discerning the spiritual atmosphere we are in and the moving of the Holy Spirit. A spiritually mature person will be able to know how to move with the "tempo" and "mood" of the Holy Spirit. It is also vital to move correctly with the "feel" of the spiritual atmosphere. Here are a few ways we can build strong spiritual atmospheres around us everyday.

June 11 - Moving In The Spirit - Christian Daily Devotions

(1) Praise and worship. Heartfelt worship and praise always brings down the glory and presence of the Holy Spirit (Ps. 22:3; 2 Kin. 3:14-15).

(2) Attitude of faith. When we stand before the presence of God, we need to let go of all our fears, worries and anxieties. Faith helps us to let go and let God (Ps. 46:10).

(3) Waiting on the Lord. Our mind moves quickly but our heart moves slowly. The longest distance is between the heart and the head. Everyday of our lives, we need to wait before the Lord till we can sense the presence of the Holy Spirit coming upon us. We need to learn to delight in a prolonged prayer and worship. Give ourselves some time for the words of our prayer or songs to move from our head to our heart.

(4) Spiritual actions. Our faith confessions, bowing, clapping, kneeling and raising of hands create powerful spiritual atmospheres. The lifting of our hands is not just a act to worship God, but it often brings down the anointing of God (Ex. 17:8-13).

As we learn the art of moving in the Spirit and to commune with Him in His tangible presence, the Holy Spirit will take us on an adventure into the exciting realm of visions and dreams, the supernatural and the miraculous.
